Matt Tritt has been having a new engine and transmission installed in his GTC. The shop took it out for a test drive and the right rear outside tire blew. The tread separated and it did a number on the side of his coach. He has dual rear wheels on his and he is going to change from the 16.5" wheels to 16" wheels. I just gave him the wheels a couple weeks ago and he was planning to put them on as soon as he got the coach out of the shop.

From the pictures it looks like it could have been a lot worse. He lost two pieces of the side moulding and it separated the lower fiberglass portion below the generator.

Tires get old and then they don't like to stay together. I know some of you also have had tires blow on your GTC. Mine looks like it did at one time as well. I don't drive mine much right now but before I have to take it out at highway speeds I'm going to change the wheels and tires. I'm putting it off as long as possible due to finances and wanting the tires to last as long as possible.

Thanks for posting these for me, Nick. It looks worse in person! And to back up what you said, I have 6 refurbished 16" wheels that are getting 6 new Firestone Transforce 10 ply 215/85R16's early next week; too late for my Hall. :-( On the other hand, the thing runs like a dream now!

Matt

Here's a before pictures of your new back wheels with the oversized tires on them. You can see where they were rubbing. I see a lot of them like this.

I added pictures of Matt's wheels mounted to the tire discussion thread.

I have a receipt from the previous owner for over $6000 for body work and all new tanks from a rear blow out on my rig

Holy CR*P! Six grand?? This tire thing is pretty serious stuff. I switched from the rear super singles for a couple reasons: if one blows it's unlikely that you'll veer into oncoming traffic and/or roll and, the stability of duals is excellent (plus you only need to carry one spare!) Actually BOTH outside rears blew out at different times and both appeared to be in perfect shape; this is after I mounted 16.5's and before I got the 16's from Nick.
