I am in negotiations with a shop to swap out the stock 360 V8/727 for a Cummins diesel. The 4BT commercial engine would be rebuilt to produce 175 HP. with over 350 Ft./Lbs. of torque in the lower rpm range. A 47RH, 4 speed automatic would then be installed. I was surprise to see that the Hall GTC has drivelines, which measured just shy of 4" with my O.D. tape. Plenty beefy enough for this modification. Much larger than my 1990 Dodge PU with the 6BT diesel. Will keep you all posted. |

Pictures. Take pictures! I wonder how the U-joints will handle that kind of torque? The driveline is beefy because these are 1-ton chassis. Will you have to modify the doghouse? |

BTW, a 360 fitted with a 4 barrel is rated 245 HP @ 4,000 RPM with 245 ft lbs torque. With headers, Edelbrock intake, 3" exhaust it should produce even more. The 350 lbs of the Cummins should really help going up steep hills! |

The 4BT is the same engine block as the first generation 6 cylinder Diesel, but with two fewer cylinders. It should fit inside the doghouse without modification. They are used in step vans & generators, and other equipment. These engines have quite a following in the conversion market. We have the money to do the project now, but are going to wait a few months for my mother's estate to pay off. |

Yep. I'm aware of the 4BT following, alright. I considered doing the same thing a few years ago, but didn't want to lose the use of the thing for the time it would take to make the swap. I opted to install a reman crate engine and reman transmission instead. Now I wish I could go for a EFI system without my wife finding out. ![]() |
