![]() ![]() ![]() What I don't have a picture of is that I have a box steel bar that bends around back to the frame. Looks they extended the hitch to use with the bumper sticking out a little. I'll get more pics when its not raining.. (Not many of thoes days in oregon this year) |

![]() ![]() As you can see this is probably not the best hitch design. They did appear to tow a car with it though as I had documentation for a bunch of towbar and related stuff in the pile of stuff I got with the van. I cut the support that went from the hitch to the bumper so I could extend the bumper to mount a cooler and some storage. I decided though that I'll wait until after this trip to do that. The little stuff always seems to take more time then you'd think. |

Old thread I know... What is that belly pan covering? Gas tank? |

It's covering the holding tanks. The gas tank is right behind the axle. Some have a 50 gallon custom tank and some have the factory tank and an additional one next to the batteries. The one in Colorado only has one gas door so I'd guess it has the 50 gallon gas tank. What's odd is that mine has the 50 gallon tank but it has the two gas doors. Nothing is inside the front one though. |

A hitch is pretty critical for me (even my cars have tow hitches). Do you think it'd be possible to tie a hitch into the frame if you go through the belly pan? I see the photos of the one where it seems to curve underneath. With my needed clearance for the driveway, that would make it difficult. |

I would incorporate the hitch with the bumper. The bumper slides in and out in two 2" square tubes mounted to the frame. Plenty strong enough for towing. You can see that in Swanson's pictures above and in my bumper topic - viewtopic.php?f=4&t=59. Maybe Matt can show what his has. |

windymatt wrote: I'll attempt to attach a few pic's....... That design prevents you from extending the bumper. For mine I'd probably remake the bumper assembly with some square tubing that fits into the recievers and make it so it can still slide in and out. |

I would think so. I got a custom hitch made for my '64 Dodge wagon at a trailer supply and hitch place. They had all of the stock materials. |
