It might physically fit - maybe - but it would be a major PITA to work on in place. The dist is at the wrong end of the engine, which would make any ign work a bummer. In the later 70's the doghouse was widened a bit to give room for the 440, but it took away foot room for the passenger. As if it isn't cramped enough as is! Are you having power problems?

I should also have added that the 440 won't mate with the transmission either and you'd have to change it for a 727 that does.

They put the big blocks in later years but as Matt says, they are very hard to work on. When they changed the cab in 1979 they made more room but even those are a pain.
What is your goal?

I was thinking that maybe changing over to throttle body injection could give you more power and for a lot less money, time and hassle. I've been on the fence about doing this too since I've put so much money into mine; not a 440, TBI. You can get a complete setup from Affordable Fuel Injection for about $1,200. The reports I've had from a guy that did it with his Dodge RV indicate that the power is greatly increased, MPG is improved and starting is instantaneous. It also eliminates vapor lock, which I experienced last weekend while driving in 105 degrees, up a steep hill. You don't want vapor lock. (:>o

You're better off sticking with what you've got.
