I've noticed a few Halls that have been adapted to a roof A/C unit and I intend on doing this with mine. I understand there are steel struts in the roof but I tried to locate them with my metal detector with no good results. I would like to install it towards the cab end where the bedroom partition is so I can run my wires along the wall to the junction box. Does anybody know the exact location of these supports in relation to the partition wall? Thanks for any replies. Ron J. R.

I sent an e-mail to all the owners on my list and asked them to check the forum and specifically your question. Some of the owners don't check their mail often or go on the forum.

Matt Tritt told me he used a metal detector and that he found four framing members. One at the front, one on either side of the entry door and one at the back. I'm sure he'll chime in with more information or corrections to what I said.

This one doesn't have a roof air but you can see that they added a vent in the bedroom area.

By the way, do you still have the original A/C unit in yours and are you planning on removing it?

According to my fancy metal detector, there are a total of 4 steel frames in the coach body. There is one in front just ahead of the window aperature, one immediately ahead of the door frame and one immediately aft of it. It is assumed that the hinges and the door latch are fastened to these members. Then there is another all the way aft just before the body begins the tight curve and behind the window. From what I can tell, these beams are pretty big - approx 4" wide. The roof is quite strong on it's own, but placing the A/C between the two center frames is the strongest place.

Repeating Nick's question, does yours have the original A/C unit still in it?

Matt, do you think the one aft of the side door is lined up with the partition wall for the bedroom? In this oddball GTC that doesn't have the partition, you can see the seam for the front and rear interior liners. I'd assume that would be a logical place for the frame member.

I think that it's actually a little forwrd of that seam, Nick. The door striker plate appears to be fastened to it.
