Post subject:  Revcon Rear Bumper

The rear bumper on my GTC is in rough shape. Both ends have been bent and the right side has big tears in it at the bends. There are also lots of extra holes from a hitch and the previous owner bolting a piece of iron fence on top of it for a rack.

A while back I went to the local Revcon repair place (angry Marty) and looked at his rear bumpers to see if they might fit. He had a rack full of them which he begrudgingly allowed me to measure one. He wouldn't let me put it up to mine to compare. I had driven my coach there to try and get window parts from him. It didn't really matter since he wanted $2000 for a used bumper in ok shape. He said that's how much he gets from insurance companies for them.

Anyway, I follow the Revcon forum and someone there was parting out his Revcon and agreed to sell me the rear bumper. This is a stainless steel bumper instead of the chrome steel like on the GTC. The size is very close with the biggest difference being the radius of the curve at the ends. This means that I won't be able to push the bumper all the way in. Having the bumper stick out even with the spare tire looks like about it. Another difference is that the hole spacing is different but only slightly so new holes can be drilled in the backer bar.

I could probably get my original bumper fixed and rechromed for a bit more than I paid for the Revcon bumper and I may still do that. Fortunately I live close enough to Mexico that it seems to be cheaper to get it done here than other places. I've used a shop here who sends them south of the border.

Really nice looking bumper, Nick. You should be able to fabricate a platform to fill in the extra space having the new shape will create... What do you think? My bumper is permanently in the 2nd position because of the way that the hitch was installed, which makes the rig a little bit longer - but still not too long.

What I'm probably going to do is have a new bumper support made with the hitch built in. Change the round pipes to square tubing. The hitch that came with my GTC was just flat bar bolted to the bumper face with a hole for the ball on a bent portion at the bottom. It hung way down and had two strut rods that bolted to the round pipes. Both my bumper and the round pipes have a lot of extra holes in them.
