just bought my htc...took in in for repairs..it had a front end issue ...leaning on drivers side and rub on 1 tire ...mechanic said it was bushings ..other mechanic said no issue just tires are too large ..door jam says originals are 2 sizes smaller ..but here on this site says that is original size...also was reading about the 16" rims rather than the 16.5 ." ...of course there are many more options for a 16' rim and tire ..what size tire can i get on there ..and does it have to be a special rv tire or can i do an lt truck tire w/ on/off road tread w/ a D or E rating? looking forward to the coach when i get new tires on it and such ... :D

First off, welcome aboard. This looks like one I haven't seen before and looks to be in good shape including the interior.

Since you have the single rear wheels, which were an option, you would have larger front tires to match. The size with dual wheels is 8.00x16.5 but with the super singles the fronts are 9.50x16.5. They are big but should clear fine as long as your front springs are good. If you're leaning to one side, you either have a damaged component or a week spring.

I used truck tires on my other motorhome which is slightly smaller with dual wheels. I went with a load range D tire on that one because it only weighs about 6200 pounds total. These coaches are heavier with more weight over the front so I'd probably go with at least a load range E tire. But you can look at the weight ratings for the particular tire. Almost any modern radial tire is going to be better than the old bias ones that were used. My GTC still has old tires on it but I'm definitely going to change to 16" ones.

If you have radials on the front and rear now, you can change just the fronts to 16" easily because there are plenty of wheels available in the junkyard on vans. You should still be able to use your wheel covers depending on how they're mounted. The actual rim diameter is very close between the 16" and 16.5" wheels and many of the wheelcovers were made to work on either.

Changing the rear wheels out is a bit more of a challenge. I haven't found any steel wheels in the junkyard that would be an appropriate replacement for the factory wheels (which look to have come from Ford Camper Special pickups). You could change to duals in the rear or use an aluminum wheel. I'm planning on using Eagle Alloys 058 aluminum wheels. Still haven't decided if I'm going to change to duals or not.

If you send or upload more pictures of your coach and the story behind it, I'll add a gallery page for you.

Nick.
