as I might have posted some time back, I had to change my original 4 kW Generac for something more current. I found a good used 2.8 kW Onan Microlite, which fits in the space with room to spare, is much lighter and almost as quiet. It must be at least a hundred lbs lighter and doesn't require a forklift to remove/install.
My only disappointment with it was that it would not start the original Frigiking house AC unit, or so I thought! When reading something in a blog about how awful the Onans are, which they are not, someone mentioned that they need to be warmed up for a while before attempting to connect a heavy load like an AC unit, so I gave it a try. I warmed it up for 5 minutes using the water heater as a load then turned off the heater and switched on the AC; it stalled. Tried it a gain, but this time starting the AC in the fan only and then lowest AC mode. It worked! It even stayed working after selecting the Highest AC position, and stayed working. I'm now quite pleased with my choice of power plants and plan next to finally install a photovoltaic system I've been putting off for years.
